Catherine is an experienced psychotherapist who has worked in public and private mental health for over 20 years. This level of experience has given Catherine a deep understanding of the complexity of each individual in their personal environments, and formed her view that people are social beings and desire a connection with others, even if this feels difficult.
Psychoanalytic theory is the framework for Catherine's practice, and her individual therapy is guided by a deep, intuitive understanding of people and relationships. As a Psychotherapist, Catherine works on the basis that what has happened in the past, has an impact on who we are now, and how we relate to others. And, in a safe environment where individuals can be heard, listened to and acknowledged, they can begin to think and reflect on themselves, their emotions and their behaviours. In therapy, Catherine works in the ‘here and now’. What happens in the therapy room is often a reflection of what happens in the relationship outside the therapy room. With developing awareness, motivation and therapeutic support, clients can make ongoing, positive internal changes to the way they perceive themselves and relate to others. This is the goal - For clients to be able to have a deeper understanding of themselves so they can have more meaningful relationships with others. |
